What is a Certified
Certified Nurse-Midwives are trained in two disciplines: nursing and midwifery. They earn graduate level degrees from midwifery institutions accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education and are licensed as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, commonly known as Nurse-Practitioners, in the state by the Texas Board of Nursing. CNMs hold national credentials from the American Midwifery Certification Board that designates them as Certified Nurse-Midwives. In Texas, CNMs work closely with physicians to collaborate with, co-manage, or even to transfer clients if indicated.
As Advanced Practice Registered Nurses,
CNMs are credentialed to provide:
Monday - Friday 11:00 - 18:30
Saturday 11:00 - 17:00
Sunday 12:30 - 16:30
Gynecologic and family planning services.
Care during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.
Care of the newborn for the first 28 days of life.
Treatment of male partners for sexually transmitted illnesses.
